The Scottish Sports Association (SSA) is the independent membership organisation for Scottish Governing Bodies of Sport (SGBs). We believe in collaboration and partnership working, utilising the shared scale and resources of our member organisations to lobby for actions by policymakers that will collectively benefit Scottish sports.

We believe in the power of sports to change lives. Scottish sports make incredible contributions across a wide range of policy areas, and need to have sustainable support from national and local Government to continue to make a difference in our communities, every single day.

We are independent of Government, but we work closely with colleagues in national and local government and at the Scottish Parliament, as well as key partners including the national agency for sport, sportscotland. We also engage with the private sector, the voluntary sector and other key organisations to shape, strengthen and promote sport in Scotland.

In practice this covers a broad range of activities, such as responding to Scottish Government or Parliament consultations, engaging with Scottish Parliament Committees and Cross-Party Groups, working with political parties on their policy positions related to sport and physical activity or representing our Members’ interests on relevant networks and working groups.

We also work to directly support our Members with a range of networking and peer-to-peer learning opportunities, as well as support through the Shared Administration Service.
