SSA Response to the Barclay Review of Business Rates
On behalf of our members, the SSA recently responded to the recent Barclay Review of Business Rates.
The Barclay review group was set up to make recommendations that seek to enhance and reform the business rates system in Scotland to better support business growth and long-term investment to reflect changing marketplaces. You may not think this is relevant to SGBs, however, these business rates impact heavily on amateur community sports clubs. Particular wording of the current rules means they are eligible for discounts and significant cost savings. Part of the Barclay Review was to look at the current definition of who is eligible for business rates relief and we have responded on behalf of our members, highlighting the importance of using the correct wording to ensure that these amateur community clubs remain eligible for relief.
On behalf of our members and partners (sportscotland, VOCAL and Sporta) the SSA submitted a response to the Scottish Government's consultation. We continue to have an ongoing dialogue with our partners around this issue.
