Vote for Sport
In previous Holyrood elections cycles we have conducted a #VoteForSport campaign, asking Scottish political parties and prospective parliamentary candidates to pledge to champion the national and community impacts of sport and physical activity in Parliament and their constituencies.
The pledge:
If elected to the Scottish Parliament, I pledge to be a Scottish sporting champion in Parliament and in our communities, to celebrate the benefits of sport and physical activity and to challenge barriers in participation.
We have yet again asked Scottish Party Leaders to support this campaign, signing up on behalf of their party and advertising it from their social media channels to let voters know that they are a Scottish sporting champion.
Sport plays a major role in people's lives across the country; as players, volunteers, coaches and officials, as fans and supporters, as the unofficial taxi operator or team kit laundry service – for so many sport is a part of everyday life. Sports clubs and groups are also our greatest community of interest, as the fabric of our society connecting people across communities, across generations and cultures while uniting us with pride and passion for our communities and our nation. We're asking parliamentary candidates to share their sporting stories, the opportunities sport brings and explain why a vote for them is a #VoteForSport.
We are also gathering information on the sport, physical activity and volunteering interests of PPCs to help keep MSPs informed of relevant matters in the new Parliament.
