REPRESENTING

We are entrusted to represent our members’ views at various forums, aiming to ensure that the interests of Governing Bodies are always championed.

Groups & Forums

We continued to represent the interests of our members on ~25 national groups or forums, a full list of which be found here

National Strategic Group on Volunteering

We were invited to join the Scottish Government's new National Strategic Group on Volunteering to support the Scottish Government in taking forward work to articulate and deliver a vision for volunteering in Scotland that recognises the vital role volunteers can play in shaping the lives of communities. This work recognises the enormous contribution individuals, communities and organisations are already making and seeks to ensure that collective action results in positive change. The work is informed and supported by the views of key stakeholders and will define the key outcomes for volunteering in Scotland, informed by key data and evidence, in order to drive work at a national and local level.

We supported a series of meetings as part of the National Strategic Group on Sport and Physical Activity Evidence Group in reviewing and guiding the review of the Active Scotland Outcomes Framework indicators. These wide ranging discussions have also helped to inform the Scottish Government's new Active Scotland Delivery Plan and the Scottish Government's review of the Scottish Household Survey and Scottish Health Survey questions.

Consultations

We engaged with 12 consultations on a wide range of topics including business rates reviews, environmental issues, offensive weapons legislation review, funding in sport and facility planning to name a few. We actively responded on behalf of our members to 6 consultations, details of which can be found below:

• Barclay Review of Business Rates
• PVG Scheme Consultation
• Health & Sport Committee - Call for Evidence Draft Budget Inquiry
• Health & Sport Committee - Sport for Everyone Inquiry – Phase 2
• Water & Sewerage Rate Exemption Consultation
• HSE Adventure Activities Licensing Authority Consultation

UK Honours

We continued to work closely with the Scottish Government to support the UK Honours Awards nominations process and saw a significant increase in the number of nominations received this year.  We implemented a new SSA Honours Panel recruiting representatives across a range of governing bodies to review nominations and make recommendations. This is reflective of our members’ support of this process and takes into account the increased opportunities we have taken to promote the nominations process. In addition to this, we now help identify individuals for the Scottish Government to invite to the Royal Garden Party and the Order of the Thistle Service. More details can be found on our dedicated Honours page here.
