Scottish Wrestling Association - Development Director

The Scottish Wrestling Association (SWA) is the National Governing Body for Olympic styles of wrestling in Scotland.

SWA is seeking a highly competitive, ambitious, experienced and enthusiastic individual to be appointed as a Development Director on the Scottish Wrestling Association Board. Following initial success in Glasgow 2014 we have a very ambitious goal to raise the standard of wrestling to the next level and ensure Scottish Wrestlers attend and perform well at all major international competitions. This is a highly challenging and exciting role, which will help in progressing the sport in Scotland by contributing towards strategy, operations and most important development.

This is an opportunity for someone with experience, enthusiasm for sport and willingness to make effective contribution to the growth of wrestling in Scotland. As a member of the Board, you will help to shape the future of Scottish wrestling, contributing effectively to the Board meetings, by providing advice and recommendations in your area of expertise. The post is non-remunerated, although travel and meeting expenses will be reimbursed according to the SWA’s policies and procedures.

You will have an objective view of implementation and improvement of the strategic and development plan.


  • ‍Drive the growth of Wrestling in Scotland by (1) helping current clubs attract and retain more members; (2) helping to start new clubs; (3) introducing wrestling into schools and Universities; and (4) introducing wrestling into complimentary sports programs like rugby and MMA.
  • Develop, implement and improve the SWA Pathway Programme and ensure it is fit-for-purpose and well utilises the current opportunities for wrestling in Scotland,
  • Lead the Development Group and ensure clubs and members are appropriately supported, securing their positive and steady progression,
  • Provide guidance and support to the Board,
  • Provide an independent view and contribute to governance issues,
  • Ensure compliance and operating systems are effective, and that the selection polices are up-to-date and fit-for-purpose,
  • Attend SWA Board meetings and AGM/EGMs, providing reports as necessary, as well as represent the SWA at meetings, conferences etc as required.

Time Commitment

Approximately 4-8 hours per month. SWA Board meetings are held once every 2 to 3 months.

Terms and Conditions

Each of the SWA's Directors is elected for a four year term at the AGM, however should your application be successful you will be co-opted as a Director by the Board until the next AGM, at which point the appointment can be confirmed. All Directors may be re-elected for one more term.
