Scottish Wrestling Association - Governance Director

The Scottish Wrestling Association (SWA) is the National Governing Body for Olympic styles of wrestling in Scotland. Following a successful Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, we are looking to ensure wrestling’s sustainable development and growth in Scotland, through expansion of our Board.

The Director of Governance will be responsible for front line liaison with sportscotland and will need to understand and advise the Board on all governance requirements from sportscotland such as audits, policies and submissions.


  • Maintain SWA Policies (including Child Protection, Anti-Doping, Conduct and Equality)
  • Support the Board in conducting audits of policy and compliance to standards as set down
  • by sportscotland including liaison with internal and external auditors
  • Ensure the board are kept advised and informed of changes in legislation and their impact
  • on the organisation and its membership
  • Deliver against the agreed organisational KPIs
  • Ensure compliance with the requirements of Companies House and that all submissions
  • and returns are completed effectively and within timescales
  • Manage Risk and Legal Registers
  • Development of good governance procedures and practices
  • General overview of SWA objectives and delivery against them
  • Strategic and operational planning
  • Presenting to various stakeholder
  • Requirements
  • Preferably experienced in Corporate Governance, ideally with a business/legal or HR background
  • Understanding of procedures and administration related to Companies House
  • Ability to support, challenge and manage a relationship with other Board Members

Time Commitment

4-8 hours per month. Board meetings are held tri-monthly
