Mountaineering Scotland - Board Directors x 2

Mountaineering Scotland is looking for two directors. One who will help to develop affiliated clubs and another who will help promote member recruitment and retention along with marketing and communications.

Closing Date: 30th June

Director for Clubs

Comprising around half of our membership, members of clubs and the volunteers who organise them make a huge contribution to Scottish mountaineering, as well as financial support for our organisation. We want to help clubs flourish, ensuring that we understand their views and needs, while also ensuring that members of clubs recognise and make the most of the benefits of their Mountaineering Scotland affiliation. This role acts as both the Board’s ambassador to our 150 affiliated clubs and as an advocate for clubs to our Board. The successful candidate will require the personal qualities to achieve this balance. Experience of the voluntary sector, community, club or sports development would be desirable. The aim of this role is to engage closely with clubs and their representatives on a personal level. This is likely to require occasional evening meetings, email, social media and survey communications (for which support can be provided by staff).

Director of Member Services and Communications

With strong membership growth in recent years, a new organisation identity, and ambitious targets to offer a membership package which is relevant and attractive to a broad spectrum of hillwalkers and climbers, this role will act as a critical friend to the busy Member Services and Communications team at this exciting time.

The director will contribute insights, advice and ideas on brand and product development, membership recruitment and retention, marketing and communications.

The role would suit someone with significant and recent experience, and demonstrable achievements at a strategic level in a relevant marketing, PR or digital communications environment, possibly within another membership organisation. This director will need to be able to dedicate time to meeting with the team approximately every six weeks, responding to ad hoc email or phone enquiries between times, and undertaking occasional project or research tasks.

For either post, please contact David Gibson, Company Secretary / CEO in the first instance for an informal discussion:

Let us know which role you have an interest in and provide a resumé of relevant experience and achievements, details of any interests in mountaineering / outdoor / sporting activities, together with a personal statement as to how you feel you would be able to contribute to our work. We will also ask you to complete an equality monitoring form at this stage. This information will be shared with members of the Board.

Opportunities to meet the Board and staff on an informal basis will be available by prior arrangement on Monday and Tuesday 17 & 18 April 2017 at Glenmore Lodge, near Aviemore, when we are holding a strategic planning event, or at the next Board meeting on Thursday 11 May 2017 in Perth in the capacity of an observer.

All applications should be submitted by Friday, 30th June.
